💥💥PRESS RELEASE💥💥
After opposing the approval of rezoning parcels R2090006F00 & R2090006 from residential to commercial, CCU was first to respond to a fish kill that occurred in a private pond receiving stormwater runoff from that’s site development and concrete crushing activities (we were unable to find proper permits for concrete crushing filed). No stormwater controls have been visualized for this industrial activity. This contaminated water flows into Dasher Creek which flows into Abercorn Creek of which is a source of public drinking water.
The adjacent landowner contacted CCU on 05/26/2025, and CCU responded immediately, in inclement weather to make visual observations and collect specimens of dead aquatic life. CCU took water quality samples 2 days later and just received results that show diesel range organics present in the pond water tested, as well as several pesticides, some banned years ago. CCU appreciates the collaboration with the Savannah Riverkeeper and is dedicated to continue supporting this issue as it develops. Official letter to Rincon Officials can be found on our website coastalcommunitiesunited.com
